Greg,

I'm installing antennas. What are the dimensions of the Trimble GPS antenna you supply with EFIS? Does it need to be mounted on a ground plane (composit aircraft)? Can it be mounted adjacent (within 1 or 2 inches) of the Garmin GPS antenna?

Thanks

It's about 1.25 x 1.5 inches. You don't need a ground plane, and you can put it next to other antennae.

Greg,

The Trimble GPS Antenna I got with the EFIS has a couple of very strong magnets intended for securing it to a steel surface.

Since I want to put this antenna on the top surface of the Forward Top Skin, under the Windshield, and my Magnetic Compass is mounted on the Canopy Brace, I intend to remove these magnets and secure the antenna with double stick tape.

Any problems with this plan, or do you have a “non-magnetic” Active GPS Antenna available?

Take 'em off! These antennae (note oddball plural) are made for portable use on a steel roof like a car. You can just take them off for us flying types.

Send the 430 back for calibration. Check your antenna position, and make sure both sets are seeing the same number of satellites. There is no GPS Calibration function, as the chipset reports the PVT solution directly. I trust this is on the ground, near a steel hangar, right?

Most likely one antenna sees more SVs than the other and is giving a different result. Now the question is, which one is right?

I have compared the EFIS GPS today with 2 other GPS, a Garmin Legend and a Skyforce and I discovered that on the road in the car,the EFIS GPS whas not programmed for automatic magnetic deviation, there is a 20 degres error, the deviation we have here in Quebec. How we make this correction? I suppose this the reason the EFIS gives 18 nautical miles error,This is the glassair EFIS.

The deviation issues (recently fixed in 2.15) only effects the heading.... not the distance.

Can you go to a know location, like an airport, and enter another airport in the flight plan. Check those distances on a paper chart and compare to the GPS. Are you sure that all GPS' are reading in neutical miles?

So will the GPS read correctly (in both heading and distance) in version 2.15? Can we use it to navigate off the screen ... as with other GPS units?

Not sure I understand "navigate off the screen".
